It is known that tree hugging and Green Spaces have great benefits to the soul and increased well-being. A recent study by Dr Mathew White from the University of Exeter and environmental psychologist with Blue Health, concludes that there are added benefits from "...proximity to water". White says that spending time in and around aquatic environments has consistently been shown to lead to significantly higher benefits in inducing positive mood and reducing negative mood and stress.
There are numerous reasons for this which are very nicely explained in an article from the Guardian dating 03 Nov 2019, Blue Space Living Near Water Good Secret for Happiness.
I firmly beleive this and I have experienced it numerous times. There is not much that gets in the way between you and these environmental benefits when you are on a sailing boat. It also makes the sea a great playground for reformatting one's brain and change habits or behaviours in a more lasting manner than in a classroom by reading an inspirational book in bed !
The disconnect with the shores and one's own "anchors", and the reconnection with the Blue Space has a bonding effect with your own soul, with the people who matter and with the moment. Repeating this every day for a week has a positive impact.
So, save the inspirational book that you were about to read in bed, organise a sailing trip and bring the book with you...
